The reflective aluminium layer on top reflects radiated body heat back to the sleeper for increased warmth at night. If you are not sure, sleep on the “silver” side, not the other way around. Thanks to the fact the sleeping pad’s deformations fit together, we have also reduced its size when packed, although it is still relatively large. On the other hand, its weight and moisture resistance, mean it’s no problem to attach to the outside of a backpack, so you’re not limited by its size. IXPE foam IXPE (irradiation cross-linked polyethylene) foam is made using high-energy polyethylene cross-linking technology. This results in a tough, durable long-life foam with high thermal resistance and a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The thermal resistance value is further increased by the thermo-reflective layer, which reflects back body heat radiated by the user, thus reducing heat loss.
